Hymns of Zion #201

"...I want my friends to pray for me, to hold me up on wings of faith, that I may walk the narrow way, kept by our Father's glorious grace...I need the prayers of those I love." Hymns of Zion #201

Colorado Bound

On Monday July 18th, I flew to Denver, Colorado to meet up with my family for a vacation.

Eating at Sonic at 11 pm. after my flight was delayed two hours. :)

Pillow fight with Timi the next morning.

Hotel breakfast

I decided I picked the best part of the trip to drive with them. Heading west out of Denver, we began to cross the Rockies.

Beautiful pines and rivers

Ski resorts

We exited at No Name exit and arrived at Glen Canyon Resort, the campground where we stayed.

Checking out the Colorado river while waiting for our cabins to be available.

Our two cabins. (This is a panoramic picture, so the row of cabins were not curving away as it appears.)

Each cabin had a bunk and a full-size bed.
Timi showing off his bunk.

We went to eat supper with the rest of the Unsicker crew at the pavilion.
Justin and I compared heights. He's awfully close to catching up to me!

Timi's still got a ways to go.
These two are the only two of my siblings still shorter than me.

Hiking Thursday morning.

We decided it was more adventurous to hike in the stream, so we did that for a bit. The water was ice cold, but it was fun trying to find the best route on the rocks.

Wild raspberries

Looking back down the river

The highest we went, a little lookout point. By the distant ridge, we could tell we'd ascended quite a bit since the same ridge towered over our camp site.

My brothers and me.

While eating supper that night, we saw this amazing rainbow that was in front of the mountain.

We also zip-lined and white water rafted, but since you have to buy those pictures, I don't have any to share. :( Just lots of good memories.

Then we drove back to Illinois... where I visited for the next week and a half.

Lost Teeth and Ice Cream

Tadeo lost a tooth!

And Mani lost his first tooth! The new tooth was already growing in behind.

A cat has joined our family. His name is "manchitas" or "chimuelo." I'm not sure which because it has changed several times. He is a good sport and usually snuggly, until 10 PM when he goes crazy and tries to hunt anything that moves.

I was thankful to have Matt visit on the Peoria team July 2nd-8th.

He caught frogs.

And tarantulas.

And worked very hard.

Tadeo and I visiting the work sites.
Mudding.

Landscaping.

Post hole digging.

Then we went to his first horse class of this Expo season. He'll be participating in horses again if all goes well.

With Perla waiting for our horse class meeting to start.

Three boys in a tree waiting for the meeting to start.

Cool boys on the couch.

Cool boys wearing sun glasses.

Cool boy eating ice cream..."You caught me!" :)

Luisa eating her cherry snack at one of our tutoring sessions.

A beautiful rainbow on Thursday night.

And a beautiful sunset.

Cheap Saturday morning fun.

Thankful for a fun first few weeks of summer, for boys, and for cats.

Please pray that I would have a safe trip to Colorado and Illinois, starting tomorrow. Please pray that all will go well for Marce and the boys here at CVE.

Last Day of School: Animal Party

Preparation Day

On Thursday, Jackie and I made a photo booth and cleaned up the classroom. Friday morning all our little animals arrived for the party. They each got a picture with their mom.

Alisha, Juana, and America the bird                                 Raquel and Chui the whale

Bere and Luisa the butterfly                                     Marce and Mani the dragon

Jenna and Mili the cat                                                  Hilda and Alexis the rabbit

Maestra Jackie, the cow and Maestra Laura, the zebra

Me and the butterfly with the food she brought, juice (or nectar) with the pitcher decorated like a flower. Sadly, I didn't get pictures of the other food the kids brought. They each brought something related to their animal.

Getting ready to talk about the animals.

Jesus showing off his waterspout. (spray bottle)

Me and my students. The whale has Jonah in his stomach. :)

The party was a success. We missed Santiago and Corina though as they had come down with the chicken pox. :(

Tadi also had the chicken pox, but by last week was recovering.

I put Tadi back on his bike last week and was very excited to see that his strength seems to be returning. :)

Thursday morning practicing numbers with Luisa. I'm working with her a few mornings this summer to practice the numbers since she hasn't mastered them yet.

Thursday night was graduation for kindergarteners, 6th graders, and middle school graduates.

Mani receiving his certificate from Todd, our school director.

Checking out the paper while waiting for Mili to receive hers.

Each class passed to the front for pictures.

And the year is complete!

Some of the summer staff posing after the graduation ceremony.

Thankful for a year of teaching, for all of your prayers, for the summer to look forward to, and all of these amazing young people who've come to help.

Please pray that our focus would always be on Christ and that we can bring glory to Him throughout the coming months.
